Communities

On an average Sunday we have over 600 people worshipping at Bath City Church, so it can be easy to get a little lost. It’s sad when we find people who have sat in the auditorium for weeks without anyone saying “Hello” because that’s just not God’s heart. We were never designed to be alone or to go through issues on our own. One of our values is to make sure that everyone who wants to belong, really feels like they do. We understand that sometimes having space is really important, but we want everyone to feel that they have a home here, somewhere you can be yourself without any pretense.

If you’re a new member, our Connect Team headed by Rosie Sherwin is here to help you find your way into church life. We know that being in a large crowd can feel a bit daunting so we try our best to help folk connect with others and to connect up someone’s individual skills and talents with areas of serving.

We can also discuss and introduce you into the various Discipleship and Community Groups we have throughout Bath and the surrounding area.

Pastoral Support

We’re here to help, and we’ll always try and do exactly that in whatever way we can. Sometimes it can be difficult for someone to know which way to turn for that help, in a big church like BCC there are so many ministries and possibilities, offering everything from lunch to inner healing, when maybe all you really want is a sympathetic ear and to know that someone cares.  All we’d ask is that you let us know what’s on your mind and on your heart, and that you let us help you find what you need.

Community Elders

In a church with as many people in it as BCC it can be difficult to make sure that everyone receives the pastoral support they need, especially so when one considers that often this needs to be pro-active rather than reactive. At Bath City Church in 2011 we introduced Community Elders, each one of whom is responsible for keeping a weather eye open for the general welfare of about 50 folk within the Bath City Church family. Nigel and Jill Stenning took up the position of Lead Community Elders in February 2012 with the responsibility for the ministry of the Community Elders and for overseeing all general pastoral matters from the church body.

Communities

Real church can’t be expressed by just gathering for a meeting on a Sunday! The church is us, the people, not a building. Not only do we want to be marked as a people who carry His presence, but as a community that is engaging with the communities we live in.

We express ourselves as community in a variety of ways, principally by meeting in groups of up to 30 people over food! Eating together is a key value for us. We have groups that meet all round the city and beyond into the region, some more family based, some all ages, some for younger people. The idea is to build relationships, to be connected and valued as a part of a bigger family. You only really feel you belong when you know you are accepted for who you are – that’s primarily what being in a community is all about.

Community Groups are a great place to invite your family, friends and neighbours, a place to feel at home amongst friends. Groups can be by home location, interest or even mission, it’s whatever works for you.

Discipleship Groups

You can’t ‘do’ Christianity on your own, Jesus didn’t, He chose 12 friends to join Him on His journey, and we encourage all Bath City Church members to be in a similar close relationship with other Christians who can support them in theirs.

If you’re new to Christianity and the church, we have a number of Discipleship Groups (DG’s) meeting around the City that will help you to grow in your new faith amongst a small group of other new believers. It’s where friendships are made, the Bible learned and the experiences of living a Christian life shared. DG’s meet on different nights and either weekly or fortnightly, and they’re fun!

Not new to Christianity, but not in a Discipleship Group yet?  Why not consider joining? Doing so will enrich your walk with God and your life in the BCC family.

Social Life

Never let it be said that we don’t know how to party at BCC! We hold a number of really enjoyable family type social events throughout the year including our own “BCC’s Got Talent” a not-too-seriously contested competition in which our home grown stars of song, stage and things in-between vie to win the audience’s votes, usually held in early December to lighten the winter dark.

Also in December we hold our evening of Christmas Carols…we don’t call it a Carol Service because it’s not that formal, it’s more an opportunity for us to invite the Bath community at large to join us in honouring and worshipping Jesus in a way that’s joyful and fun, mixing traditional songs and carols with that special BCC something!

Then, during the summer we hold our annual Fun Day, risking the weather to enjoy an afternoon of sunshine, picnics, chat and general lazing about, with a few games thrown in for good measure, and there are other events throughout the year, all of which are not only fun, but help us to grow as family.

Events are always advertised on this website, and in the weekly 'This Week' hand-out.
